Prof. Dr. Vedat Demir is an exiled academic who is currently the Einstein Guest Researcher at Freie Universität Berlin in Germany.
He was a visiting professor at Universität Potsdam in Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung – Philipp Schwartz fellow in 2018-2021. He was a professor at Istanbul University in 2010-2016. Dr. Demir received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marmara University and his Ph.D. from Istanbul University.
His research expertise focuses on journalism, political communication, and public diplomacy. He served as the General Secretary of the Turkish Press Council from 2000 to 2003 and was a visiting scholar at Ithaca College and Cornell University between 2012 and 2014.
Dr. Demir is the author of Türkiye’de Medya ve Özdenetimi [Media and Its Self-control in Turkey] (1998), Medya Denetimi [Media Control] (2005), Medya Etiği [The Ethics of Media] (2006), İletişim Yansımaları-Kuramlar, Uygulamalar, Gerçekler [The Echoes of Communication: Principles, Applications, Realities (2007), Türkiye’de Medya Siyaset İlişkileri [The Relationship Between Media and Politics in Turkey] (2007), and Kamu Diplomasisi ve Yumuşak Güç [Public Diplomacy and Soft Power] (2012).
